Basics of Single Bus Scheme its advantages and disadvantages

Switches and breakers in substations are arranged in various schemes. As the name indicates a single bus scheme involves a single bus. It is the simplest arrangement in which all breakers, transformers, generators, and isolators are connected to a single bus.

Advantages:

  1. Low cost
  2. Simple to operate
Disadvantages:
  1. Difficult to do maintenance operations
  2. Failure of bus results in failure of the whole substation
  3. Can only be employed where loads can be interrupted or where we have some other supply source
