A bad voltage regulator can be easily identified with one of these symptoms:
- Heating: Its temperature will be higher than usual working temperature.
- Ripple generation: It'll generate ripples instead of constant level voltages.
- Output current: Its output current will be zero or very small.
- No output voltage: Its output voltage will be zero.
Obviously, you'll need a multimeter to test the voltage regulator.
